Torture and its Prohibition in Islamic Sharia

On 10/30/2023, an academic seminar titled "Torture and its Prohibition in Islamic Sharia, National and International Documents" took place at the conference hall of Salam University. The seminar was organized by the Faculty of Law and Political Science and led by Professor Abdul Hamid Rifat. Mr. Faisal Mohmand, a third-semester student from the Department of Political Science and International Relations, served as the moderator. The seminar began with the recitation of verses from holy Quran by Mr. Qari Sahib Shamsullah Hanif, a seventh-semester law student.

This was followed by Professor Abdul Hamid Rifat delivering a presentation on various aspects related to torture, including its definition, the characteristics of both the torturer and victim, different types of torture, the historical progression of torture, the purposes behind it, the instruments used, institutions involved in torture, prohibition of torture in Islamic Sharia, as well as the prohibition discussed in national and international documents. The seminar provided comprehensive, informative, and valuable discussions on these topics. Questions from participants were satisfactorily addressed, and the program concluded with a prayer led by the respected Qari Sahib Shamsullah Hanif.
