The Department of Public Activities at Salam University held a seminar titled “The Role and Responsibilities of Professors and Students,” led by Mohammad Ibrahim Shams, a first-semester student in the Faculty of Economics. The event commenced with a recitation of verses from the Qur'an by Qari Abdul Basir, a third-semester student in Islamic Jurisprudence at the Faculty of Shari'ah. Following this, Professor Abdul Malik Saqib, the Dean of the Faculty of Shari'ah, delivered a short speech on the topic of the seminar.
Professor Saqib discussed the significance of knowledge and scholars in Islamic awakening and their role in the revival of lost civilizations. Citing Qur'anic verses and prophetic traditions, he examined three fundamental concepts: knowledge, the scholar, and the student, emphasizing the esteemed position of knowledge and scholars within the Islamic community.
Following this, Hasbanullah Motawakil, the head of the Islamic Culture Department, addressed the etiquette and responsibilities of students, outlining their duties in several areas. Firstly, students must embody faith and religious devotion, learn religious teachings, apply them in their lives, and share their knowledge with others. Additionally, standing firm against challenges, defending Islam, and adhering to Islamic ethics in daily interactions are crucial responsibilities.
Students are also required to show complete respect for their professors, listen to their advice, and demonstrate patience and tolerance. Upholding the academic and ethical dignity of their professors and appreciating their efforts is of particular importance.
Regarding their responsibilities to the university, students must maintain order, protect university property, and respect the academic reputation of the institution. Active participation in academic and cultural activities, as well as ethical conduct in interactions, are further responsibilities.
Finally, students have an obligation to use their knowledge to serve the community, respect cultural principles, and promote public awareness. Attention to environmental issues and natural resources is also a critical responsibility.
Overall, this seminar elucidated the roles and responsibilities of professors and students, emphasizing the importance of constructive and positive interactions between these two groups. The program concluded with a prayer led by Hasbanullah Motawakil.
