Political Discourse on "Effectiveness and Ineffectiveness of the United Nations"

A political discourse titled "Effectiveness and Ineffectiveness of the United Nations" was organized in the conference hall of Salam University by students from the Department of Political Science and International Relations. The event was held as part of a two-day competitive program under the Diplomacy Clinic initiative of the department.

The program commenced with a recitation of verses from the Holy Quran by Qari Sahib Inayatullah Haq Mobarez, a fourth-semester student from the department, followed by the moderation of the session by Faisal Mohmand, a fifth-semester student. Initially, Professor Ataulhaq Anas, representing the Department of Political Science, provided a brief introduction of the event to the audience.

The discourse featured two teams, Group A and Group B, who engaged in a lively and open debate. Their discussions were assessed by two esteemed judges, Professor Muhammad Hamed Musleh and Professor Ataulhaq Anas. The program aimed to critically examine the role, achievements, and challenges of the United Nations in maintaining international peace and security from its inception to the present.

The objectives of this competitive program were as follows:
a. Analysis of achievements and failures: To evaluate instances where the United Nations succeeded in its missions and where it fell short of its objectives.
b. Identifying challenges and obstacles: To highlight the barriers that have hindered the effectiveness of the United Nations.
c. Educating students: To enhance students’ knowledge and understanding of the United Nations, its operations, and its limitations.

At the conclusion of the first day, Professor Muhammad Hamed Musleh, a faculty member and judge of the program, commended both teams for their excellent performance. He also provided constructive feedback and shared insights to further enhance the quality of such events in the future.
