Abstract

The migration of millions of Afghan citizens, particularly in the wake of recent political and security developments, has become a complex and multidimensional international challenge. Driven by political, economic, and social crises, this situation calls for coordinated international efforts to manage its consequences. In this context, international organizations such as the United Nations, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), and other humanitarian agencies have played a vital role in supporting Afghan migrants. Their involvement extends beyond humanitarian assistance to include asylum planning, relocation to safe countries, and the provision of legal aid.

This study explores the support provided by international organizations, the key factors driving Afghan migration, the consequences of migration for individuals and society, and strategies to mitigate these trends. The findings reveal that international and humanitarian organizations have made significant contributions to assisting Afghan migrants. At the same time, migration has led to several negative outcomes for Afghanistan, including brain drain, a decline in skilled labor, and cultural and social disruption. Deportation policies have further increased pressure on the Afghan government, migrants themselves, and the supporting organizations.

Using a descriptive research approach informed by academic theories and case studies, this article provides an in-depth analysis of the migration phenomenon. The results suggest that addressing this challenge requires the implementation of policies aimed at creating sustainable employment, improving internal security, expanding access to education and healthcare, and establishing support programs for returning migrants.

It is hoped that the insights from this study will assist policymakers in designing more effective strategies for managing and reducing migration in the long term.
