Electrical Engineering Department

The Department of Electrical Engineering is one of the most important departments of the Faculty of Engineering and its establishment is considered very essential in the current situation of the country since Afghanistan is a developing country and by ensuring full security and establishing factories and industries, the need for professional engineers in this field will be felt a lot. Thus, the Department of Electrical Engineering of Salam University in order to educate qualified, professional and skilled engineers, has great educational and practical programs in hand to present engineers to the community who will perform the right actions in their respective fields besides being able to do research in their field related topics.                                                                          

The Department of Electrical Engineering consists of different fields, such as Power and Energy and Communications. The Curriculum of the Department of Electrical Engineering has been prepared with the course outline for each subject in accordance with academic norms and today’s needs of society since we know that electrical engineering is a field that operates science and technology by utilizing the rules of mathematics and physics for designing synthetic sections, energy systems (generation, transmission and distribution) and telecommunication systems, and implements their maintenance in practice individually or collectively for achieving a specific goal in a safe and secure manner by applying internationally accepted standards.

The current curriculum of the Department of Electrical Engineering is a standard curriculum that is compatible with the current needs of the community and involves 162 credits, eight semesters and two months of practical work in projects.       

                                                                 Academic Cadres

  The majority of the faculty members of the Department of Electrical Engineering hold master and doctoral degrees from reputed foreign universities and have   sufficient experience and expertise. In addition, the University always strives to improve the quality, quantity and systematization of Electrical Engineering Department programs so that the University can introduce it as the most reliable, quality, standard, honest and service-oriented educational body in the country.

Currently, the total number of professional professors in the Electrical Department of the Faculty of Engineering is (12). Four of them are permanent professors and (8) others are part-time professors.

Also, there are (5) professors in the field of Islamic culture and (2) others in the field of English Language. Thus, the total number of professional and non-professional professors reaches (18). If the number of students goes up, the number of professors will also be increased.

The study period of the Electrical Engineering Department of the Engineering Faculty is four years, eight semesters and two months period of practical work. This department has a standard curriculum in which 162 credits are taught. The curriculum of the Department of Electrical Engineering like other departments, is based on the academic credit system and involves the University criteria, basic, professional, practical and optional subjects. They are described in the following chart:

 Practical work and Academic Expedition

As mentioned before, in the Curriculum of Electrical Engineering Department, two months are allocated to practical work which take place during the seventh and eighth semesters. During this period of time the students are taken and introduced to ministries, private sector projects, governmental and non-governmental projects for the purpose of conducting research.

In order to implement the students' practical work period effectively, the Faculty of Engineering has signed memoranda of understanding with multiple governmental and non-governmental bodies, some of which are Ministry of Rural Development, Ministry of Public Works and Kabul Municipality.

The students 'practical work process in the projects is monitored by the coordinator of the Engineering Faculty. At the end of the mentioned period of time, the relevant department evaluates and approves the prepared report about the students' practical work. In addition, the students prepare a detailed report about their practical works. After the defense, they hand it over to the relevant department. In case of necessity, the professors can take the students on an academic tour during the semester to visit practical projects. Furthermore, the department directorate of this faculty provides students and their respective professors with the opportunity to take tour and have visits to the projects in each semester.

Eligibility Criteria:     

Must be graduated from 12th grade (High School)

Should have NIC or Passport

Appearing and passing the Entry Test (Kankoor Exam)

Should have a fair knowledge of English Language.
