Faculty of Engineering

The engineering faculty of Salam University was established for the urgent need of the Afghan community. A faculty that could produce educated engineers equipped with modern science and technology.  The graduates of this faculty are expected to be devoted to their country and responsibility of serving the nation with quality and standard engineering. The faculty’s administration strive hard to achieve following objectives:

Objectives:

  1. Providing an academic environment in the field of engineering for the students in accordance with Islamic values.
  2. Developing academic standards in accordance with the need of the society.

  • Training the students with experienced and qualified instructors.
  • Modern and equipped laboratory for the practical learning of the students.
  • Nurturing students with faith and honesty to faithfully serve the nation and country.

Publications:


For each subject a learning material has been developed according to the outline, available for the students at the start of each semester. The faculty of Engineering has the honor to publish six text books in the year 2013-14. The faculty is currently working on 27 text books which will soon be made available to the students of public and private universities.

Engineering Faculty Curriculum:


  • The curriculums of the Engineering Faculty are developed in a balanced format, which consists of both the theoretical and practical learning.
  • The curriculum of the Civil Department consists of 165 credit hours among which 65% of the credit hours are assigned to lectures, while 26% of the credit hours are allocated to the practical training and 8% of the credit hours are apportioned to practical solutions.
  • The curriculum of the Power & Electronics Department consists of 162 credit hours among which 70% of the credits are allocated to the lectures, 24 percent of the credits are assigned to practical training while 6 percent of the credits are apportioned to practical solutions.
  • The curriculum of Urban Engineering consists of 160 credit hours in which 63% of the credit hours are allocated to the lectures, 32% of the credits are assigned for the practical training while 5% of the credits are apportioned to practical solutions.

Academic Trips and Activities:


The Engineering Faculty has assigned two months of practical activity before the start of 8th semester. During this period the students are introduced to the public and private institutions to practically learn and have experience in their relevant field. During this period the students have to produce a report on their learnings and report back to their departments while the faculty supervises them. Besides, the departments arrange educational tours for the students to visit the engineering sites to practically learn.

  3. Department of Power & Electronics


Department of Civil Engineering:


The Civil Engineering Department has developed a curriculum based on academic standards and the needs of the society. Civil Engineering department focuses on professional engineering using modern tools and technology in line with international standards of engineering and safety environment rules.
Students graduated from the Department of Civil Engineering will have following achievements:

  • Student will be able to design building structures.
  • They will be capable of designing hydraulic building structures.
  • The civil engineering students will be capable of designing roads.
  • They will be able to design water supply and drainage systems.
  • The students will be able to lead and manage any construction projects.
  • Student of Civil Engineering will be aware of standard qualities of constructions.
  • They will be able to check and test variety of construction materials.
Department of Urban Planning:

The Department of Urban Planning offers a four year undergraduate degree program with prime focus on modern city management, urban planning and urban design.

Graduates of Urban Planning will be capable of following skills:

  • Ability to design and plan urban structures in line with physical, psychological and spiritual need of the society to improve city quality.
  • Students of urban planning will be capable of city management and development.
  • The students of urban planning will be able to know the socio-economic, political and cultural relations of the society and design the city accordingly.
  • Ability to design and plan basic infrastructures such as transportations networks, parking lots, public parks and green areas in accordance with economics and social needs.
  • Familiarity with technical and technological terminologies and modeling, mapping and survey capabilities.Ability to analyze the city and urban problems and to address them.

Department of Power and Electronics:


Department of Power and Electronics offers a four year bachelor degree program in the field of power and electronics. Degree program offered focuses on energy and power, electric and electronics and communication technology.
Graduates of the department of Power and Electronic Engineering will achieve the following skills:

  • The graduates will be capable to administer, secure and oversee communication networks, power stations and substations.
  • They will be able to design industrial, commercial and residential electrical systems.
    The students will be able to install industrial, commercial and residential electrical systems.
  • Students will be able to utilize power from industrial, commercial and residential electrical systems.
